Manufacturing & Shop Floor Control

The bill of material (BOM) is typically defined at the item level, but it can also be edited or entered directly from the work order.

Overview

·  Work Order Maintenance — Manually or automatically generate work orders. Define work order details, such as BOM and routing, at the item level. Also, specify additional operation and scheduling information, including notes, warehouse, order priority, quantity to build, scheduled start and completion dates, etc.

·  Operation Completion and Scrap Reporting — Set up the shop floor to report quantities being built at specific steps in the production process. GBMS instantly logs the operation completion history in the work order’s transaction screen, letting users view real-time information on work order status.

·  Work Order Delivery — Perform delivery transactions to create the finished goods inventory for build items. Users can then print a finished goods label. Depending on the order’s assigned put away method, delivered items will either remain at the receiving location or automatically be moved to an inventory location.

·  Sub-Contracting — Issue purchase orders directly from a work order. Sub-contract items can then be shipped to a sub-contractor by the shop floor, with the ability to print all the related shipping documents and labels.

·  Component Tracking (Product Genealogy) — Track the complete history of finished goods from components. Capture additional serial or lot-specific data for each tracking number. Record even more information with user-defined prompts.

·  Operations Pre-define an unlimited number of operations that can be quickly accessed from routing configuration.

·  Routing Pre-define routing and assign it to items prior to work order entry. Or, set up the routing during order creation. Restrict routings to particular enterprise dimensions, item categories, or item numbers.

·  Work Centers — Pre-define operations with default work centers. Schedule the next available work center based on number of pieces or hours.

Companies can use either a hand-held scanner or PC terminal equipped with a wedge reader to perform operation completion. GBMS instantly logs the operation completion history, providing real-time information on work order status.

GBMS’ Shop Floor Control (SFC) module lets companies use automated data collection equipment to track material usage against work orders. Users can define detailed bill of material (BOM) information for each manufactured item, with optional item genealogy tracking of the serial / lot numberfrom the raw materials to the finished goods. The SFC module’s sub-contracting feature allows purchase orders to be generated directly from a work order to track services that are out-sourced to sub-contract vendors.

The three basic pieces of the SFC module are:

·  Work Order Entry—The point at which the specific manufacturing process is defined for a production order

·  Operation Completion—The ability to track quantity and status of manufactured items moving through operations

·  Work Order Delivery—The transaction that creates the finished goods inventory records

At the end of the manufacturing process, users can print a finished goods label, including graphics and serial / lot information. They can also define a custom label design for each item according to its particular physical size and information requirements.

Replacing much of the manual and keyboard record-keeping process, the SFC module takes advantage of RF hand-held devices or wedge scanners for fast, efficient barcode data collection on the shop floor. Companies can integrate the SFC module with either the GBMS WMS module or a third-party warehouse management or ERP system. The SFC module can also incorporate the GBMS Attendance and Labor functionality.
